Why Use This Calculator?
Calculating accurate metal weights is critical for shipping cost estimations, structural load bearing analyses, and fabrication quoting. Because different alloys have significantly different densities (Specific Gravity), calculating by volume alone is insufficient.
This calculator uses the exact physical density of your chosen alloy:
- Carbon Steel: 0.284 lbs/in³
- Aluminum (6061): 0.098 lbs/in³
- Titanium: 0.160 lbs/in³
Note on Tolerances: The weight provided is a theoretical mathematical weight. Actual scale weight from your supplier may vary slightly due to mill tolerances (rolling the plate slightly thicker than nominal) and variations in trace alloy elements.
